Dogs continue to cycle for the duration of their lives. If you want it to stop, get her spayed- though I wouldn't at her age.

I would consult your vet and see what they advise. I'm very surprised they didn't recommend spaying her long before this, for many reasons.

she isnt spayed because i got her as an old dog and she was pretty feeble also the person who owned her before i had her said that her previous owner bought her for breeding but despite many attempts she never got pregnant. i actually thought she may have been spayed because since i have had her shes only had 2 seasons.

Whippets tend to go a long time between season anyway. As a rule I don't think they actually stop having seasons, but I believe that as they get older the time between them can get longer.

This is a little confusing - if you got her and then she went into season, why would you think she'd been spayed? At any rate, I know sometimes dogs are unable to tolerate the surgery for various reasons (such as just being too old and weak, or dogs that have clotting problems) but I think still coming into season might also pose health risks to her, such as pyometra. That's why I think you should discuss it with your vet. Good luck with her.

At that age a responsible vet wouldn't do the surgery as an elective as there's more risk of something happening to the dog during the surgery than the risk of what might happen at this point if you leave things as they are.
