happy trails Jack

Postby 4 whippets » Mon Nov 07, 2005 6:53 pm

We put Jack down today. The Vet was very helpful and let us know we were doing the right thing. We talked about how hard it is to make these decisions. Frankly, I feel relieved. We had Jack out on the back lawn at the Vet's and we were able to sit with Jack as he went.

Gaye, I am so sorry. It's a terrible feeling to lose one of your pups. You gave Jack relief, though, and that is how we must consider it. Tina and I are thinking of you.

The fact that you feel relieved shows you did the right thing...it must have been so hard. You did what you had to do for Jack. I really feel for you.

Gaye, I'm sorry you had to go through this but unfortunately it's part of being a pet owner. Jack had good years with you and he knew you loved him and I'm sure he loved you. We're all better for the animals that come into our lives. It's never an easy decision and I'm sure Jack will be missed. Run free sweet Jack with all your Whippet cousins.

Our thoughts are with you. It's so hard, but take comfort in knowing that you did everything possible and that Jack left knowing that he was and always will be loved.

Gaye, I'm sad to hear of your loss. It's good to hear that you are at peace with your decision, at least. I'm sure you did the right thing for your Jack. I'll be thinking of you both.

Making decisions is so hard sometimes. Especially when it involves losing the thing we love so much. Jack knew you loved him and he trusted you to do what was best for him. He may be gone but he will always be in your heart. I truly believe that we will get to be with our pets, from goldfish to horses, again. You have my sincerest sympathy.

Jack

I am curious about what you decided on Jack

My 14 year old whippet is experiencing much of what Jack experienced. She is weak in her back end. She had some cancer removed last May. There are days when i think she is too tired to carry on but then she perks up and wants to go for a walk. The walk takes its toll on her and she sleeps about 20 hours a day/ She needs to be carried up and down stairs.

Quite simply i can't bring myself to do it. I just hope she will fall asleep and not wake up. Then i think she will let me know. I thought about taking her to talk to the vet for a more subjective opinion. She is also so very thin not because she does not eat because she eats 2x per day and plenty of treats and all.

Not an easy decision.
