possible stroke??

Postby 4 whippets » Mon Mar 28, 2005 7:14 pm

Yesterday Jack seemed to have a seizure?stroke? This getting old business is the pits. It started out with my watering some plants and Maile let out a single sharp bark. Less than a minute latter Jack was standing by my husband's chair and was acting like he wanted to scratch his chest with a hind leg but not being very successful. Milt scratched him and Jack followed me to the kitchen. On my return with more water for the plants he stiffened up and was shaking all over. My IG, when I was a child, had epilepsy and this looked sort of like that. I got a blanket for him and Jack just lay there for five minutes or so. A bit latter he was getting a drink of water and seemed to have a small recurrence. Poor boy!

At this point I think we will just keep an eye on him and hope he doesn't have more episodes. In all this what I find interesting is the warning bark Maile gave. I have heard of assistant dogs with natural talent that can be trained for this type of warning. Did Maile sense this was comming?

How scary! I hope Jack doesn't have another episode, and keep us updated.

Thanks for your good thoughts. Jack will be 15 this summer. He is just getting old - can't see clearly, hard of hearing, getting stiff. Hmmm, sounds like the rest of us. Today he had no more episodes.

Sorry to hear about Jack's problems. This happend to a friend's Whippet - my boy's older brother. She came home from work one day and found him on the floor. He was fine for about 6 mnths and it happened again, only this time he couldn't get up. The vet said he had a bunch of mini strokes and went over the rainbow bridge that day to play with all his cousins in green pastures. Good luck with Jack.
